Butter Boletes get their name from their striking yellow flesh and pores. They are a medium to large size bolete that have a brown or rosy colored cap. Butter Boletes prefer a hardwood habitat where they have formed a mycorrhizal partnership with hardwoods, particularly with oaks. They can be found clustered together or solitary and often after a rain. Their yellowish pores are known to stain a striking blue after being handled and at times erratically. Butter Boletes are desired for their dense, meaty texture and can be used in a variety of different cooking applications.
